What Is Registered Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy is the manual treatment of the soft tissues of the body, including: muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and joints. Massage therapy helps alleviate the soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain conditions. Various massage therapy techniques are used to enhance function, aid in the healing process, and promote relaxation and well-being.
At Peak Health & Performance, all of our RMT’s are 2200-hour certified and specialize in deep tissue and therapeutic massage. Manual lymphatic drainage, relaxation, and cupping massage is also offered. Massage therapy is a great adjunctive treatment to chiropractic and physiotherapy, and pain relief is optimized for the patient when these therapies are used in combination.
What Is Cupping Massage Therapy?
Cupping is an adjunctive therapy to massage therapy; glass cups are suctioned onto the skin’s surface through negative pressure. The suction draws out toxins, stimulates the peripheral nervous system, brings blood flow to stagnant muscles and skin, loosens adhesions in the connective tissue, and loosens stubborn knots in the muscles. Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that cupping opens up the meridian pathway to allow Qi to flow freely. When Qi flows freely throughout the body, one enjoys good physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Cups can be left over specific acupuncture points to stimulate the flow of Qi in that specific area, or the cups can be used to massage the muscles causing a deeper muscular release. At Peak Health & Performance, Jessica and Mike are the RMT’s that are certified to provide cupping in their massage therapy treatments.
