Gross Motor Skills
Does your child have difficulty keeping up with their peers or siblings? Do they have difficulty coordinating their bodies? Do they have difficulty sitting for meal time?
A physiotherapist can help develop the skills your child may need to keep up with their peers and engage in physical activities. This can include walking, running, jumping, climbing stairs, balancing, throwing and catching, riding a bike, and building the skills to live an active lifestyle. This may include kids with gross motor delays, ASD, DCD, cerebral palsy, global developmental delays, Down Syndrome or genetic conditions.
Gait Concerns
Does your child trip and fall? Does their walking or running look not quite right? Do they walk with a limp or on their tip toes?
A physiotherapist can help assess where these issues are coming from and provide hands on treatment and home strategies to help. This might include building leg strength and coordination using obstacle courses, climbing ladders, and trampolines. We can also provide advice on footwear and orthotics if needed.
Postural Concerns
Does your child have a curve in their spine (scoliosis)? Are they complaining of neck or back pain? Do you constantly ask them to sit up straight?
A physiotherapist can help assess if this is a structural or muscular concern. They will provide exercises and treatment to help build strength and endurance to maintain good posture as your child grows.
Sports Injuries
Does your child complain of pain after activity? Have they recently suffered an injury? Have they broken a bone or had surgery?
Kids have unique injuries and healing timelines. Their bones and joints are not the same as adults and our experienced staff have the knowledge of how to treat injuries that are specific to kids. We can provide care to reduce pain, improve function, and get back to the activities that kids want to do safely and as quickly as possible.
Concussions
Has your child had a recent concussion or hit their head? Are they tired, irritable, dizzy or complaining of headaches?
A physiotherapist can complete an assessment and determine the appropriate treatments required for a safe and fast return to school and sport. This will include return to school and return to sport guidelines, hands on treatment and a home exercises program.
